Phobias
Phobias are irrational, excessive, fears which are beyond the control of the patient and which lead to the person avoiding the feared object or situation. Its recurrence varies according to the phobia as there are simple phobias which refer to a specific object or situation that affect approximately 5.5% of the general population. Social phobia, associated to social situations (eating or drinking in public, speaking in public) affects 4.5% while agoraphobia (fear of open spaces or public places) affects 2.5% of the population.
The treatment depends on the type of phobia suffered: psychological in simple cases and a pharmacological psychotherapy combination in the rest.
