Treatment of Eating Disorders
This pathology is mainly characterised by abnormal eating habits or extreme dieting which may lead to serious emotional, physical or interpersonal suffering.
In recent years, we have seen a rise in the incidence rates of these disorders. While the majority of cases are seen in adolescents or young women, an increasing number of young girls and men suffer this disorder.
Although anorexia and bulimia nervosa are relatively infrequent, approximately 10% of teenagers and adult women show some type of eating behaviour disorder which results in suffering and psycho-psychical effects. These symptoms often respond well to treatment, which prevents more serious illnesses.
The treatment for both anorexia and bulimia is based on psychotherapy and occasionally psychopharmacology.
